Terms

Last updated: 4 May 2026

1. The deal

By using Plassic — the app, the website, or any associated service — you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Plassic.

The deal is simple. Plassic gives you a risk-inference score for products in our database, based on the best publicly available information about microplastic exposure. You bring the scans and the curiosity. We bring the database and the methodology.

These terms form a contract between you and Plassic Pty Ltd ("Plassic", "we", "us", "our"), a company registered in Australia.

2. What Plassic is — and isn't

This section is the most important one. Please read it carefully.

What Plassic is:

Plassic infers microplastic-exposure risk by matching a scanned product to our curated database of peer-reviewed research, ingredient disclosures, and regulatory data. We assign each product a score from 0 to 100 based on a documented, publicly available methodology.

We are an information service. Our scores reflect the weight of published evidence at the time of our last database update.

What Plassic is not:

  • Not a particle detector. Plassic does not physically detect microplastic particles through your phone camera. Your camera cannot do this; no consumer app can. We use barcode and image recognition to identify the product, then look it up in our database.
  • Not medical advice. A Plassic score is not a diagnosis, a health risk assessment for any individual, or a substitute for advice from a qualified health professional.
  • Not legal or financial advice. Nothing on Plassic should be relied on for legal claims, investment decisions, or regulatory compliance.
  • Not a laboratory. We do not perform physical tests on products. Our database is built from third-party research and public disclosures.

For a full explanation of how scores are calculated, see our Methodology page.

3. Account terms

Plassic accounts are for individual use. One person, one account. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for everything that happens under your account.

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms on your behalf.

Things you may not do with your account or our service:

  • Scrape, mirror, or systematically download our product database.
  • Run automated bulk queries against our scoring API.
  • Resell or sublicense access to our scores or database.
  • Use Plassic to build a competing product database without a written commercial licence.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer our scoring algorithm beyond what's disclosed in our public methodology.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms, after giving reasonable notice where practical.

4. Subscriptions

Plassic offers a free tier and a Premium subscription. Premium is currently priced at $3.99 per month or $24 per year (roughly $2/month). Prices are in USD unless otherwise shown at checkout.

Prices may change. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice of any price increase before your next billing date, via email and an in-app banner. Continuing to use Premium after the change takes effect means you accept the new price.

You can cancel at any time. Cancellation stops future charges; it doesn't trigger a refund for the current billing period. If you cancel an annual plan, access continues until the end of the paid year.

Payments are processed by Paddle, our Merchant of Record. Paddle handles billing, invoicing, and applicable taxes. Your payment details are held by Paddle, not by Plassic directly. Paddle's terms apply to the payment transaction itself.

Refund requests for purchases made through Paddle should be directed to [email protected]. We handle refunds on a case-by-case basis and honour all rights under applicable consumer-protection law.

5. Marketplace (Phase 2)

Plassic does not currently operate a marketplace. When a marketplace is launched, it will operate under a separate, additional set of terms covering purchases, returns, product liability, seller obligations, and fulfilment. Those terms will be presented clearly before any transaction.

The product scores shown in the app are independent of any future commercial relationship with product manufacturers. A brand cannot pay to change its score.

6. Intellectual property

The Plassic scoring methodology, database, app, wordmark, and all original content on this website are owned by Plassic Pty Ltd and protected by applicable intellectual-property law.

Product names, brand names, trademarks, and product images displayed in Plassic belong to their respective owners. Their appearance in the app does not imply endorsement, sponsorship, or affiliation with Plassic. We display them under fair-use and nominative-use principles for the purpose of informing consumers.

Your personal scan history and account data are yours. We process that data as described in our Privacy Policy.

7. Limitations of liability

Plassic is provided "as is". We work hard to keep our database accurate, but we make no warranty that scores are complete, current, or free from error.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Plassic is not liable for any loss or damage — including indirect, consequential, or incidental loss — arising from decisions you make based on a Plassic score. This includes, without limitation, decisions about what to eat, buy, use, or avoid.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be excluded by law, including rights under the Australian Consumer Law or equivalent consumer-protection statutes in your jurisdiction. Where a statutory guarantee applies, our liability is limited to resupply of the service or a refund of the amount you paid, at our discretion.

8. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Minor updates — fixing typos, clarifying existing clauses, or reflecting changes in law — may happen without individual notice.

Material changes — anything that affects your rights, the scope of the service, or pricing — will be communicated by email and an in-app banner at least 14 days before taking effect. Continuing to use Plassic after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.

The date at the top of this page always shows when terms were last updated.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and the courts of New South Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute.

This doesn't override mandatory consumer-protection rights you have under the law of your own country. If you're in the EU, UK, or Canada, your local statutory rights apply alongside these terms.
